I decided to put a new set of strings on today. I always buy strings
on sale you know were you get 10 or 12 sets at some really low price not
caring what brand they are they all seem the same to me. So I have a
whole box of Dean Markley High Gain yada yada yada. I like to change
two strings at a time it's a lot easier with a whammy bar. So I open up
the package there is only 3 envelopes then I notice they put 2 strings
in each envelope they have the 1st & 4th in one 2nd & 5th then the
3rd & 6th , now I know I'm in trouble. There's at least a 50% chance
I'll mix them up putting them on especially the 3rd & 4th strings how
many times have you mixed those two up reaching threw the back and let
me tell ya it's a bitch to tune. Well I did an internet search for
suggestions but could only find basic installation techniques nothing on
bad packaging designee. Well I really took my time checking and
rechecking happy to report it all went well I did have pull some back
out after turning the guitar over. Let you in on a little secret masking
tape and a pen that's all I say. Any way I thought I would warren you
all about those Dean Markley strings. I'll let you know how they sound
tomorrow after they get acclimatized' for 24 hours.
One more thing the 4th string has a dent in it brand new;
they will be getting a stern e-male I might even threaten them with a
Johnny Cochran
The idea of putting eg 1 and 4 together is to save packaging, and so that
you *can't* mix them up. The idea is to put those two on as a pair ie do
1 and 4, then 2 and 5, then 3 and 6. This had been standard Martin
packaging for years. <g>

Oh sure maybe that's fine for an acoustic there's no whammy bar, I'm
talking about an electric guitar with a whammy strings threw the back
dificulty times two.
Can you explain the problem? I've got three electrics with string-through
mounting, and I can't visualise a difficulty. Ie I take off the 1st string
and replace it up to tension, then the 4th string and so on, until the
packets are empty. I admit that on a strat style trem I take the string off,
then look for daylight through the vacant space to make sure I'm trying to
poke the string in the right hole - but I'm getting senile.
Mostly I use individually packeted strings, and I take them out of the
packets and install them one at a time in no particular order.
