Due to some health issues, I've been unable to get out for a couple of
days.
However, thanks to e-bay, I am possessed of a new Epiphone Sheraton.
Kids,
I am DYING to try this thing. I have a cheap 1/4 to 1/4" male cable to
which I've cut off one end. I've also cut off the end of a set of
headphones, a 1/8" walkman plug. I'm just trying to get some goddamn
sound
through my soundcard, my computer, so don't worry about sound quality and
stereo vs. mono and all that ***. I've got to make some goddamn noise!
I've been playing this thing acoustically for two damn days and it's
driving
me insane. I don't have an amp yet. I don't have a soldering iron, but I
know tht if I twist together the right connections I have something that
will hold on a temporary basis. HELP! Does anyone know how to do this?
I've tried the obvious--twisting together one wire and a random wire from
the 1/8" plug (there were two wires I stripped out of the 1/4" cable and
two
into the walkman plug).

I'm dyin' here! Help!

Dave

You won't get great results with this, but the tip of the 1/4" cable will go
to the tip of the 1/8" plug. The other conductor from the 1/4" cable, the
ground, will go to the ground on the 1/8". Plug this into the line in or
mic in on the soundcard.

However, you will probably find some level matching issues, but you may not
care about that right now. To get past them, you can use something like a
small mixer - say a Behringer UB502. Then you can just use easily
available cables. Use Kristal or Audacity for free recording software
that supports effects plugins.

A better approach is to bypass the soundcard by using a decent audio
interface. M-Audio and others make a variety of these.
