I've built the same preamp circuit into too many amps to count. Used
the same parts in both PTP and PCB. Guess what? They all sounded
different. THe best sounding ones were done PTP. Know why? I had
control over layout and lead dress. Printed boards are often not laid
out properly and have tons of traces in close proximity that create
unwanted capacitance. What's that do? It can cause oscillations and/or
sound "dead"....kinda like turning a guitar vol down (w/out a bypass
cap) to whre it gets muffled from the loading. PCB amps CAN be good in
terms of reliability and tone, but they must be well thought out before
they go into production. They're not hard to work on *if* you know what
you're doing to begin with. Getting some of the newer stuff apart is
another story (PV 5150 combo, classic xx, Crate vc50, etc).

Modern PCB amps are not hand built. Hardly a good comparison.
