In case someone had the resources to make their own.

The vibration of the string is transferred through the saddle, bridge,
mounting screws to the wood. Not the inertia block and springs to the
wood. I've yet to find anyone who can actually hear the difference
between a potmetal and steel block. Really.
The sound you hear is from the pickups, anyway.

I strongly beg to differ. I replaced the potmetal block on a 80's MIJ ESP Strat
with a Callaham and it made a far bigger difference than any pickup
replacements. Not so much in the overall tone, but in even sustain all over the
neck, elimination of dead spots (like 3rd string, 12th fret), better string-to
-string definition, and more guts from the high E & B strings. Nothing imaginary
about it, and my hearing isn't super acute. It was just obviously better.

OTOH I don't feel any need to replace the blocks on my MIA Strats. I doubt
there'd be much improvement. That's probably why some people don't hear a
difference and think the whole replacement-block thing is a sham, because
they're replacing a block that's not too bad to begin with. But in the case of
an otherwise nice guitar with cheap hardware I'd start with the block before
changing pups, to make sure everything was as sound as possible mechanically
first.
