A 1/2stack isn't overkill imo, no guitarist with a 1/2stack looks
pretentious, even in a little tiny club. I've gone back and forth
between 1/2stacks and 2x12 combo amps. I love the sound of a good
1/2stack, they can get the low end that a 2x12 cant, they just have
better tone in general.. I'll always own a 1/2stack, I play one in my
basement by myself. Which head do you have, mk2's come in 50w and 100w
flavors iirc? If you have the 100w one I'd strongly recommend the
4x12. The 50w one *could* go either way, but I still think with a nice
marshall head, you're doing an injustice by giving it only a 2x12.
It's like putting a 4 cylinder engine in a vintage Camaro,
2x12's have their place though, if you don't have a lot of space, like
if you have a small practice studio or whatever. Soundguys in smaller
venues like 2x12's better than 4x12's, cuz they only mic up one
speaker, and they dont want a lot of extra noise on stage to bleed into
their other mics. And 2x12's are easier to haul around,
.
