Does it stop if you touch the strings? Just go over the wiring closely

Hi,
I got a Fender Strat in to repair.
As I do not often repair guitars I have a problem with this one.
It is still stock, no changes or replacement have been made.
I can not tell the model but it's a recent model.

The owner said it played well and suddenly there is a "noise".
No real hum but a faint version of it.
It is very disturbing when either pick-up is used on its own (switch
position 1, 3 and 5).
Its gone when two pick-ups are used (switch position 2, 4).

I checked with a pick-up connected straight to the amp: same noise.
Ooh yes, I compared it with 4 different guitars, Fender included, in
the
shop.
There IS a diffence, very clear...

Any idea?

Thanks,

Zilog

Thanks you all,
It's not the common hum you get with bad solderjoints or lose connectors.
I checked with the pick-up straight to the output jack. Same thing.
I told the shop owner that I can't help it.
"How do you explain that this fender or that guitar is silent?"
I have no answer.
And all of these guitars are based on the Fender Strat model with single
coil pu's.
Strange...

I question any true single coil being silent,With the exception of Suhr's
system
As mentioned there are however stacked coil pickups that look like singles,
they are totally silent. Even more so than side-by side 'buckers.
Lace were quiet for sure, but silent? No, slap on overdrive or compression
and it's back
