Hi,---------
I got a Fender Strat in to repair.
As I do not often repair guitars I have a problem with this one.
It is still stock, no changes or replacement have been made.
I can not tell the model but it's a recent model.
The owner said it played well and suddenly there is a "noise".
No real hum but a faint version of it.
It is very disturbing when either pick-up is used on its own (switch
position 1, 3 and 5).
Its gone when two pick-ups are used (switch position 2, 4).
I checked with a pick-up connected straight to the amp: same noise.
Ooh yes, I compared it with 4 different guitars, Fender included, in the
shop.
There IS a diffence, very clear...
Any idea?
Thanks,
Zilog
What you are describing is normal
in pos 2 and 4 most strats will be hum-canceling, due to the reverse wind
and polarity of the middle pup
Some say shielding will remedy this... personally I don't have that
experience at all, may help a touch. It will however help any buzz that may
be a shielding issue
