Re: OT? Drinking sodas in bars

Same here. I never was much of a drinker (that one Navy stop-over at Rota
Spain on the way back from a 7 month Destroyer deployment in the Indian
Ocean notwithstanding :)), but on the rare occasion I do Beer or Wine don't
do it for me. The stuff makes me sick.

Give me a good old-fashioned Screwdriver any day.

I prefer Diet Pepsi :)

On Feb. 23rd I turned 48 (no gifts are necessary) and I went to a club
to watch a band. Ordered a margarita of which I drank half, then
ordered a Jack & Coke which I also did not finish. After a little while
I had a stomach ache which lasted into the next day. Now I'm no
lightweight but it is clear to me that I can't drink alcohol any more
since this has happened the last few times I had a drink (which wasn't
very often in the last few years). Not to encourage illicit behavior,
but these days a few bongs are much easier to handle than alcohol. Any
of you other real men out there having the same problem?

What has me concerned is that I like to watch live music, and would
like to participate in open mic jams, but will the bar owners ask me to
leave if all I order is a couple of sodas? I expect a lot of teasing,
but I'm serious.

I can't drink beer or wine anymore either, I feel like crap afterward.

I do like my occasional vodka or scotch, though ;-) mainly because
they're kind to me the next day. The problem is, I can't afford to go
to the local blues jam & start downing Grey Goose on ice, so I stick to
club soda.
