Re: OT? Drinking sodas in bars

On Feb. 23rd I turned 48 (no gifts are necessary) and I went to a club
to watch a band. Ordered a margarita of which I drank half, then
ordered a Jack & Coke which I also did not finish. After a little while
I had a stomach ache which lasted into the next day. Now I'm no
lightweight but it is clear to me that I can't drink alcohol any more
since this has happened the last few times I had a drink (which wasn't
very often in the last few years). Not to encourage illicit behavior,
but these days a few bongs are much easier to handle than alcohol. Any
of you other real men out there having the same problem?

What has me concerned is that I like to watch live music, and would
like to participate in open mic jams, but will the bar owners ask me to
leave if all I order is a couple of sodas? I expect a lot of teasing,
but I'm serious.

Sometimes I like to drink and sometimes I don't. If you feel like
having something with alcohol in it then have it; if not, have a soda
or whatever else it is that you feel like drinking. Bar owners are not
going to give you crap because you're drinking soda. While they
probably don't make as much on plain soda as they do on cocktails,
they're still making money - especially if you participate in the free
entertainment you're providing for them by taking part in the open mic
jam.
