So what I am getting out of this is:
1. Those 1950something Guitars everyone is paying a fortune for, are
actually worth less than re-issue's.
2. Guitars built on computerized machines with zero tolerances are far
better than the old handbuilts with major deviations.
3. They are throwing away guitars that are probably better than the Gibson
you bought 25 years ago.
So sez the CEO who stands to profit not from vintage guitars but from
the reissues he's marketing (adding to his bottom line). So you know
it's got to be true ;-)
At the end of the day, manufacturers will charge what the market will
bear. It has nothing to do with value. If Behringer could get $1200
for their Strat knock-offs at reasonable volumes, you bet that's
exactly what they'd charge.
That's not necessarily true. Price does give you some indication of
quality/value. Behringer could not get $1200 for their strat knockoff
because everyone knows that they are not the same quality as other
$1200 guitars.
(I'd be more inclined to buy Gibson's CEO "quality" crusade if he
didn't blatantly state his intention to double prices)
RF
I think he said, he already doubled prices.
