Hey Steve,
I arrived a little late to this discussion (my kids needed the PC for
homework). But here are my thoughts:
1. The guitar tracks are great. Nice playing, nice tones, nice mix.
2. The drum programming is excellent. Very convincing. I know how hard
this is.
3. The bass needs a little something, but I'm not sure what... maybe an
EQ tweak to make it sit better in the mix.
4. The vocals are pretty good. I read all the critiques before
listening to the song, and I was pleasantly surprised. The only thing
I'd suggest is another few takes to get the timing a little tighter,
and maybe you could emote a little more. It's a heavy song, but your
delivery is kinda casual. (I'm not saying you should do a Rob Halford
imitation or anything, but a little more intensity would be cool.) I
know it's hard to get that intensity when you record at home. Don't be
afraid to comp the best parts of different takes.
Hope this helps. Keep it up. You 2 are on to something.
