Distortion Pedal For Metal

I'm not a metal head by any means, but once in a while when no one is
home, I like to crank it up and do a little head banging.

I am sure this has been asked here a million times, but I am going to
ask it again. I am looking for a pedal for getting a metallic sound.

One criteria, is that it must be true bypass. I saw the Digitech DF7
discussed here before, but in doing my homework, it doesn't look like
true bypass. If any of you would give me some suggestions based on
your experiences, I will make a list and do some more homework.

Thanks.
