The nitrocellulose finish is the traditional guitar finish.
It would be correct on any Fender from 1962.
The various 'poly' finishes began on Fenders around 1968 due
to environmental concerns (C.A.R.B.) and ease of manufacture
in the larger quantities that Fender had increased to by that time.

Not really. At least not very much at all.
It's more of a wear and durability concern.
The nitro will wear, chip and yellow. The poly is much
more durable but will crack in a different way than the
nitro.
