What One Man Band Equipment are you using?

Thinking of puttting together a compact but high quality backing setup for a one/two (keyboard/guitar man band.
 
What's the way to go?
- one extreme - backing tracks on CD,
easy, reliable, easy to have backup in case of breakdown
but
low cred (too much like karaoke)
 
- other extreme keyboard/midi module midi setup or PC setup 
 
more techy so may look more credible to audience
but harder to  use, less reliable
 
Comments from people actually doing this would be especially welcome
