I did a '61 Strat with regular aluminum foil 20 years ago for a buddy, and
it helps noticeably, if done neatly.
I had Repair Guy do my Hendrix Tribute Strat when I had it in for some
fretwork a year or two ago; he did a very nice job using proper copper foil.
It seemed to change the tone just a bit, made it a bit louder, with a bit
more "bark" to it. I haven't really noticed a problem with hum since.
Yes, it's worth it.
