I was like that, cover songs, boring gigs, drunks yelling 'Skynard',
etc...then we chucked it all and wrote our own stuff. I had a creative
burst that produced a nice collection of tunes, then kinda ran out of
ideas. But that, with another 10 or so from the other members, and a
few choice covers did us well. We enjoyed it, the people liked it, and
we did well for about a 2 years, then broke up over personality
clashes, NOT boredom.
Nothing like the audience getting excited over something YOU wrote.
One thing though, when you do your own stuff, it takes a while to get a
following, but when you do, they follow you everywhere.
