I once had a '78 Gibson SG that I bought because the headstock was shorn
off - two pieces. Somebody did a glue job, and used bondo or something. It
literally went out of tune when you bent a string.
That was a pretty simple fix, but I had to break it into two again,
dissolve off all that crap, make some good surface contact again - and
glued it right with Carpenters glue.
It really was good as new - probably better - if it broke again up there it
wouldn't break at the join.
Sure.... resale value was off :) But, it was a good learning experience,
and I got a cool guitar out of it...
