Hmmm weird, that hasn't been my experience with them at all on acoustics.
I've left a set on for nearly 6 months with no visible wear except where my
pick hits the strings.
I don't bother with them on electrics, but me & brass don't get along and I
get a lot more life out of the elixers than I do out of a normal set.
