Many modern day lawyers like to have as many inventors listed as possible. The more people with the same version of the time line and events involved in the invention the more defensible the patent is. Here's an example of going overboard with listing inventors:

I can tell you with honesty that Paul, Scott and myself are the only ones that really had anything to do with the development of the utility function of that product.
However, in the early days, and quite so in the 40s and 50s it was common to list one person as the inventor even if there were a team of people working on the many aspects of what is patented. It was not unusual for the owner of a company to be listed as the inventor even if he didn't really do anything. Here's an example of a patent with two inventors listed:

I know first hand that there were at least two other people that made material contributions to the function of that product.
I've worked very hard under the employ of others and my ideas have made their way into products that are patented yet my name is not on all of the patents. Luckily I still get some royalty checks here and there for products that are still selling. I had my priorities straight. *** the patents, I went for the money deal. Maybe Paul felt the same way.
Having a patent on something is no insurance that you will ever make a penny and not being listed as an inventor has no bearing on whether you will ultimately profit from your involvement. They are two separate negotiations.
Winnard. I'd really like to *** you up.
Get behind me devil and bother me no more.

Its plastered all over the internet. Its also hogwash.. His only contribution was what color to paint it? Gold. Gibson may have stolen ideas of his from the Log which he had submitted to them.Thats about as far as it goes. To tell you the truth I dont even think he cares for them too much. He gets a large percentage of profit from each one sold and knows which side his bread is buttered on. His name was the household variety back in the 50's when he made his contract demands and I dont think anyone expected the Les Paul guitar to do what it has monetarily for Gibson. Les Pauls biggest contribution is a big one indeed Sound on sound recording Multiple tracks The money he has made off of that is a ridiculously high sum
