Its not just the density of the wood that gives a paul its sustain, but the
vibrational qualities of the wood as well. Else they could use any similiar
weight wood to build it. See? Its not the weight, its the qualities of a
maple topped mahogany body that gives a Paul its tone and sustain. Other
woods arent the same. But all in all, me personally, dont think its *that*
big a dif. But there is a dif. As one can easily hear on my all mahogany
electro-acoustic. That thing rings. The smaller the body the less it
matters. Too me.
The weight is a side effect. A result of the properties of the wood, not
the cause of the sustain, tone, etc... An irrelivency except to the guy
having to lug a large brick over his shoulder.
