You're right, the problem is the nut being too high, and it should be low.
Conceptually the adjustment is simple - it uses thin saws and files to
deepen the nut slots. In reality, it's farily skilled work as you need to
be very careful to not deepen the slots too much. It's best to find
someone skilled to tackle this job, at least the first time - the tools will
cost as much as the repair but you won't know exactly what the results are
supposed to feel like.
This adjustment is normally part of a complete setup. If you indicate the
area you're in, there's probably someone in this group who can suggest
someone qualified in your area.
