They'd surely put something like that in closer to the end.
Play the scratch for Duane, let him do his thing for
several takes. Then blend together bits and pieces
of takes for the desired outcome.
The scratch is typically light in terms of xtras.
ie, it's drums, bass, some chordal instrument. But
they hold out the oboes and bagpipes and pan flutes.

....so now - the next step. What happens when they put the tour together? How to they decide who tours with the road band, and how long to they spend practicing trying to recreate the intent of the released project so they can tour the package?
I do have some experience around the edges with tour/road support folks - equipment providers - so I've got a fair idea how road logistics work. But what about the artists?
