by a guy that doesn't understand one of the three
major components of music.

Just because you don't happen to like the genre don't mean it "sucks"

As I've mentioned before, a swing dancer I know once told me that
musicians generally make really lousy dancers because they can't keep
time unless they have an instrument in their hands. And they count
very differently from musicians - "5-6-7-8"...if/when they count at
all.

That sounds like more nonsense. You keep hunting for excuses
for why YOU can't/won't/don't deal with the incredibly simple
concept of rhythm.

"Learning" can be highly over-rated at times.

Yeah. Whatever you do. Don't learn how to keep time.
It will absolutely ruin your ability to play and dance.
