Essentially every trumpet, violin, trombone, clarinet
player in the world learns to read. I'm sure there will
now be posts about a handful of french horn players that
play strictly by ear and don't read.

Musicians other than guitarists learn how to hear
and play MUSIC.

Guitarists seem to want to focus on how to hear
and play GUITAR.
