I think that the language that we use governs how we think. So I might
say "I can't sing", whereas what I mean is "I've never made a serious
effort to learn how to sing". In any event, blaming it on your
(epi!)genes, upbringing or whatever is a cop out, because no matter
what natural abilities you have, you aren't going to find out if you
don't try. And the journey is always more important than the destination.

Then there is someone who tried (hard,) and still failed, and the person
that barely tried and was wildly successful. My son playing drums comes
to mind. A few lessons in Jr High and the guy is playing like Krupa. He
doesn't even want to play drums.-
I took drum lessons in school.
I was a master virtuoso only my parents didn't know it.
They told me that either the drums have to go or I have to go.
