But Lumpy doesn't think IQ has anything to do with pitch
ability either. So I think we agree, unless I missed
something.

Could be. That's as far as I would go . Even a elec tuner
needs a processor.

Jim

A tuner has no smarts- its a measuring device.

Snark.

"Smarts" not in the human sense. But it is a processor and
that is similar to neurological activity.

No. You could have a linear circuit (i.e. analog) drive a
meter movement, to do the exact same thing that your LCD based
tuner is doing.

Any "processsing" that is happening in your LCD based tuner
isn't doing anything much more than converting a signal from
analog to digital, so that it can push some digital bytes into
the LCD controller chip, so that the LCD display can simulate
a meter needle.

There is IQ in the design, yes, but not in the execution of
the final product. No more than a light bulb that lights up
when it receives current.

Now we're nitpicking on a microscopic level.

Jim

I challenge it because you're giving a "meter" way too much
credit saying that it has IQ/smarts.

The so called "nitpick" is an order of magnetude in error,
which disqualifies it as a nit.
