The sad truth is that a Hello Kitty guitar is supposed to be a cheap beginner guitar...unfortunately too cheap to be playable out of the box.
I had a quick session with one in a shop a few years ago...I thought I had accidently picked up a hello kitty Dobro. the action was that absurd.
The problem I would have with playing a guitar like the Hello Kitty (or one with, say, spikes and skulls) has nothing to do with manliness, it is the feeling that I would have to be a bloody good guitarist to front up with something like that. But even then there's an element of double bluff - "if he is brave enough to play that thing he must be good".
