Hi all,
I’ve been lurking in a.g.b. for a few months now so I thought it’s
time to give a little introduction.
I started playing guitar a little over 2 years ago. I have no musical
education to speak of other than a few years playing the trumpet in
junior high school a few decades ago. Right now my guitar of choice
is a Tacoma ER28C acoustic. My first guitar was (and still is) a G&L
Legacy that I bought used along with a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp, but
I rarely play electric since getting the acoustic. I recently picked
up an electronic keyboard to play around with and maybe help with
learning music theory.
As far as my musical tastes, my favorite guitarist is Jerry Garcia.
His solo (i.e., non-Grateful Dead) work is equally important to me as
his GD stuff. I realize he’s not everybody’s cup of tea but his music
works for me.
Some of my other favorites include: Frank Zappa, Neil Young, Carlos
Santana, Joe Walsh (James Gang era), Alvin Lee, Robert Fripp, and a
long list of others.
I started out just strumming chords and have recently moved on to
fingerpicking some Beatles arrangements and some Neil Young stuff. My
goal is to just take it one step at a time and see where it goes. I
have no delusions of becoming a "guitar hero."
I’m looking forward to participating here but wonder if I’m the only
_real_ beginner.
Regards,
Mike
Hi Mike,
You've obviously spotted that there are people here from all levels of
guitar playing and most musical styles. It's a good place to discuss
guitar playing. You can usually get straight forward answers, often
from a few guys who each have a slightly different way of looking at
things. Even if you've been playing for a while, you can still have
your eyes opened to a different approach.
I change styles like the wind changes direction so, I'm always a
beginner at something ;-)
