I like electric blues artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan, who else would
you recommend in a similar style? I especially enjoy good guitar
players, but I can do without harmonica or saxophone solos that seem
to go on for ever.
The simple trio of guitar, bass and drums is ideal and a touch of
Hammond organ is good also. But I like the blues mostly for the guitar
part, so the guitar player has to "deliver the goods."
<g> What about BB?
My first choice would by the reputed father of electric blues, Muddy Waters. His playing gives a good view of the transition between acoustic and electric blues styles if you listen to him playing both.
Another one I don't think has been listed is Johnny Winter, and Sean didn't mention the third King, BB.
And what Lumpy wrote elsewhere, it is about the notes and how you play them, not the effects chain. I most certainly would go back a few generations to find the seminal electric blues players. There are some fine modern slide blues players, like Derek Trucks and Sonny Landreth, but I think they only form a small part of the whole electric blues picture, which is still dominated by the early players.
