Place is small enough that I know most of them...got friends on the force; one of them wanted me to join once, but I'm not up for that sort of gig.

Considering the crap about cops that seems to be rather proliferate on CNN these days I would hazard that you ran into a good one, with a rather morbid sense of humour given recent events..

...anyway, here we are heading to dinner after the service, and I get pulled over in a DUI gauntlet that we all had to go through to get to the resturant. The exchange went as follows:
cop: have you been drinking tonight, sir?
me: I'm not even gonna say this because you won't believe it...
cop: nothing to drink tonight?
me: ok...I'm gonna say it - no, I haven't been drinking, and in fact I'm on my way to dinner from church...
cop: you play guitar in church?
me: yes, and that's it in the back seat actually.
cop: you sure there's a guitar in there and not a sniper rifle?
me: tonight, yes - there's a guitar in there...
cop: ok...have a good evening.
