That's what I thought. That other guy was just arguing for argument's sake, as I suspected.

I think you can safely spread your procedure out over days and even weeks if you need to. Taking the strings off could be one task, and then you could come back to the procedure days later without worries.

Keith Richards has truck loads of Teles with the 6th string permanently not there, just for the sake of playing in open G tuning. He says he removes the 6th string so he can have the root on the bottom for a "big sound". Well, I have a cheap Mexican Tele tuned to open G, and I just tuned the 6th string up to G. The root on two strings for a "bigger sound." Oh no! The neck will warp and explode etc. etc. Never happened. That guitar has been tuned like that for years.
