Hey Gang,
A short story, I want to clean the frets on my Guitars one 12 string and one six both acoustic and a solid body six.
Question: how long can I leave the strings off without damage, I'm not talking weeks but a day or three, I have medical problems and have to limit how much I can sit, stand or lean over it on the counter. Three days at the most shouldn't cause problems?

BTW Happy Fathers Day to all the Daddies out there, even if you don't want to admit it!
Given adequate humidity and temperature levels, you can leave it
unstrung indefinitely without ill effects (truss rod or not) In
effect, with the 12 strings off you no longer have 230lbs of tension
on your top or your neck (120lbs for a 6 string)...which is how you
should store your guitars if you plan to put them away in a case for
any extended period...slack stringed with no tension...same with
shipping cargo air. Indeed, I hope you take the opportunity to replace
the strings, but if you plan to reuse the old ones, just slacken the
strings and use a couple of 1/2 dowel cut to about three inches or so
to keep the strings spread away from the board while you clean the
frets. Bumping 000 steel would or a blue Scotchbrite pad up and down
the neck is a quick way to get the frets shiny again, a little naphtha
on a soft cloth will do wonders for your board.
