Every new guitar needs a set up. Intonation is part of a good set up.
Not sure what you are calling "extensive work", but filing nut slots
and bridges, along with truss rod adjustments is normal.
Thanks for the reply.....I am aware a setup is normal on any instrument. But
I would consider building up the bridge or moving it to be out of line....
