Failing the "call a friend" option, you're at the mercy of
the sales staff. In this case, I would then google
the net with the most buying advice you can come
up with. If nothing else, this will make you aware of some
things to look for and to ask about.

Snark.

Depends on the sales staff.
I've been to GC in Glen Burnie,
MD last year, then visited 2 recently in
Tallahassee and Jacksonville.

Are you in Maryland by any chance? If so here's a couple of tips (for
you or anyone else who lives here or passes through).

The Glen Burnie GC sales staff is much better than the average CG
(including those in Towson and Rockville).

For good deals and a great selection of used instruments, check out
Atomic Music in Beltsville. Over the past few years, I've bought a
Gibson Les Paul Standard Double Cutaway Plus, a Highway One Strat, an
American Standard Tele, a Fender 12-string acoustic, and a silverface
Fender Twin Reverb amp from them, all used, decent prices.
