Re: What was / is your first guitar?

Do you still have it - do you still love it (if you ever did)

Reading through - everyone wants more posts - so here's one from a new
poster (admittedly a lurker!)

Anyhow - I've been playing three years this time round (I had a brief
go when I was 17 - now 33) - definately a beginner still.

My first guitar was an epiphone SG cos even dando had one from the
lemonheads and I thought he was cool!

Anyway - the sad fact is I never knew how to play well enough at the
time to know whether it was a good one or a bad one and I sold it
later at Uni for bear money!! I supose I regret it slightly as I
would like to know if it was a good one.

Second time round was an epi les paul - unfortunately it was a dog -
looked ace - wouldn't stay in tune. Next came my first guitar that I
loved/love - Fender US Tele - awesome.

I now have a relationship with four guitars - love em all but
sometimes wonder if 4 is too many?!!??!

Anyhow - tell us your stories!

....hmmnnn...the first guitar I ever picked up to try and play seriously was my dad's Teisco Del Rey...single coil, he's still got it and I still play it sometimes when I go home to visit...

....but MY first guitar - the first one that I ever bought with my own money, for myself - was and is a '78 Gibson Les Paul Custom Black Beauty...yeah - I still have it, and it's still my favorite out of the (now) nine guitars I own, of which two others are also Les Pauls. In order of purchase:

1) '78 Gibson Les Paul Custom (my absolute #1!)
2) '79 Gibson Explorer
3) '06 Dan Armstrong reissue
4) '94 Gibson EDS-1275 (black/gold)
5) '06 Fender American ash Deluxe Telecaster (my "traveling axe")
6) '06 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe (wine red/mini-hum)
7) '06 Gibson Les Paul Classic Custom (P-90 - my #2)
8) '07 Danelectro '59 Dano
9) '08 Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster (jury's still out...)

So far, the Strat is my least favorite of all of them as far as feel goes (but I've only had it for a week or so)...I far and away prefer my Tele to it, and I far and away prefer my Les Pauls to either Fender. But, they do make some useful noises...so I'll keep 'em in my arsenal. Now I need to get an acoustic...
