I used to have towing on my auto insurance.
We just changed carriers. The new carrier wants
$40 every 6 months. With the old coverage, I used
the towing one time in 8 years. The cost WOULD have
been $30 for the tow.
No question that I no longer pay for towing coverage.

Ya, you really need to do the math. Here a lot of folks get CAA (Canadian
Auto Assoc) coverage yearly for towing etc. In our own experience we
seldom need their help/boosts etc. I only sign up when I need to call them
for a two. Then I let it lapse when it runs out.
The funniest thing was when my wife bought a toaster ($15) from Zellers,
and they asked her if she wanted to buy a protection plan for it: "Are you
kidding!?!? I'll just be a nice new clean one. I don't want to get the
dirty old one fixed!"
Snark.
