Re: Mixer question

As some of you may recall, I'm about to get stared recording voice+acoustic guitar solos. Many people replied to my earlier question about recording, and I thank you all. Now I have a couple of other questions...

The first question is...what is the functional difference between the Behringer XENYX 8O2 and the Behringer Eurorack UB8O2 units? Do they both have the same capabilities? I looked at them both on the Musicians Friend website and can't see any difference, except in the price.

They appear to be identical in function, looking at the Behringer website - I expect that the difference in price is the difference in the quality of the mike pre-amps between the XENYX and UB lines.

Next, (and this is probably a total novice question) What is a "FX send control"?

And FX (effects) Send and an AUX Send/Return bus are one in the same thing - it's just a matter of how they are labeled. Think of the "Send Control" as your "Mix" knob - it will control the level of the raw signal that gets routed to an outboard effects box...typically a reverb, but not always. The AUX Return knob will control the level of the returning signal...the labeling on this thing is confusing and inconsistent, that's for sure...you might want to look at this one instead, depending on what you want to do, and your budget -

On a higher end board you'll find AUX send/returns exclusively because they are more flexible than just for routing effects signals - like to use for individual monitor sends, for ex. Such boards will also include Inserts plugs on each channel strip for routing of effects to one channel only. That eliminates the crosstalk that will occur as a sub-mix from routing multiple signals though the AUX/FX into a single stereo effects box.

I asked MF these same questions in an e-mail and got a totally unresponsive answer.

....when in doubt, download the users manual from the manufacturer's website, study and compare...I always do that before I buy anything nowadays.
