If you have a SS amp that is rated at 100W at 4 ohms, and you run an 8
ohm speaker with it, it will run COOLER than with a 4 ohm speaker. But
it'll give you less power. Usually more than half, because of power
supply and other issues that limit the full power rating. Running at 16
ohms will give you half of the 8 ohm output, and your amp will run
cooler yet.
I think we actually agree, here. If you want the same sound output
(power delivered to the speaker), a mis-matched amp will have to run
hotter because more of the amp's power is being wasted. I think
you're saying that you might not be able to get as much power to the
speaker, and that's probably true if you're running the amp near full
output.
