When I go to my doctor I drive up a long driveway to an old house in the woods. Sometimes he has a receptionist/secretary there, but she's just part time, so often he's the only one in the office. There's always plenty of time for a chat, and he doesn't seem to mind if I suddenly remember some other pain or something that I'd forgotten to mention on the phone. I pay $108 a month Medical Services Premium; it covers my family for everything: surgery, hospital stay, ambulance... Socialism is hell.

...even at my gastro at UCLA Med Center, even though he doesn't dote on me, they still take hand written notes and use written/printed records.

$108 is dirt cheap...my folks pay $900+/month...

I'm in Canada. If I couldn't pay the $108 it wouldn't matter; I'd get the same medical care.
Strangely, the American government spends more per capita on health care than does the Canadian government, yet the US has millions of people without medical coverage.
In anticipation of all the right wing responses to this, here's an article to start with:

I read Michael Moore and closed my browser.

That's all we need. Some fat slob telling us how to fix our healthcare system.

BTW: Everyone in the US (including nonresidents) have health insurance.

It's called the emergency room. If you don't believe me ask an ER nurse. I'm married to one.

The best thing Americans can do to improve their heathcare is put down the fork and pickup a bike.

Sorry for the butt-in.

:-)

Yeah...that's what I think too. One of the single biggest contributors to "childhood" obesity in the USA is the fact that fewer and fewer school systems in the US require physical education beyond grade 9, IMO.

....and even don't get me started about the number of Canadians that my cousins in Detroit say routinely cross the border into the US to get critical care because of the wait on the Canadian side...eh?..
