This is EXACTLY how I work in default mode, and I too expect the same
when I take from someone. I do adjust to the student if this is not
what they want.
Often times I have had to adjust my expectations, because some of the
above was lacking, but I am at the point to where I am able to learn
on my own pretty well, and can supply my own motivation.
During my beg/intermediate (whatever the heck that means) phase, the
above description worked best for me. Everyone is different though,
and some might chafe under that much structure.
My advice always is, to ask around at a bunch of places about who is
the best teacher. Take a few weeks, talk to folks at stores, other
musos, including different instruments.
The same handful of names should continue to pop up. The guy I just
spent 6 years studying with studied for 7 years with a keyboardist,
even though he is a guitarist. Good luck
.
