IWS uses all 7 chords or the harmonized Maj scale,
including the vii chord.
It breaks the rule once and uses a III Major instead
of a iii minor.

Start on the vi.

This is a really great example of how a bit of music theory can help
you communicate. So "I Will Survive" is the chords from one major
scale played around the circle of fifths, starting from the vi chord
but in one place you use the III to approach the vi. That seems so
simple. Even the last bit makes sense 'cause that would be like an E7
approaching Am which is just so common in minor keys. Wow, you've just
described the chord sequence, of what would look like a complicated
tune, in a few lines. At last I can speak a second language :-)

I've been thinking it would be a good idea to start remembering tunes
as I, IV, V etc instead of C, F, G. From the examples you've been
giving us, it certainly looks like a way to recognise similar patterns
in different songs.

I'll be having a go at IWS later tonight, when I get out my new Mimi
Fox book on playing arps over standards :-)
