OT: useful info about Word 2007 files

You don't have to upgrade to read the new Word 2007 files

Having recently received a .docx file by email, I remembered an article I read in that day's Sydney Morning Herald saying that the latest version of Word, Word 2007, saves files in a new format, .docx, unreadable by earlier versions.

Since we are likely to encounter these with increasing frequency, it's good to know there's an update for Windows that allows earlier versions of Office, including MS Word, to read .docx files. It's from none other than Microsoft and it's free. I tried it and it worked for me in XP.
