This is a losing battle.
If you want to play a song wrong do it.
Composers write music on paper so that others can play the songs
properly.
When a composer writes a song it comes from his heart and mind.
He wants others to at lest try to recreate what he felt and thought at
the time.
Key does matter in some songs especially guitar music using open
strings.
Keep in mind that when playing in a band your only job is to create
the music for the singer to sing to.
This is all about ego.
You want to be the guitar hero.
Not a professional who provides correct music for a singer.

No-no-no-no- again - the singer and the other musician are there to
entertain (either themselfs and or others) ... whatever that may
mean.. they are not always there to mimic a recording., and I am not
there to be my wifes backup band ( vocals are just another instrument
and all need to work together to pull it off), and a handful of our
tunes are instrumentals ( they don't count as music ??) .. . In my
example I am there to have fun...we rarely play out ( I don't really
care that much about that - I make money at my day job, all done
chasing chick etc. , So we throw a party now and then where we show
what we have, and occasional outing gigs) , main purpose is to have
fun and learn to be a better musicians as a group ( usually by
experimenting and pushing my own limits ). It's not because Im lazy,
hell I spend more time figuring out ways to go from one cord to
another in creative ways than it would take me to learn the darn thing
note for note ( which I have no interest in) , in fact I almost
Never play it the same way twice, cause I'm havening fun poking at it
different ways, 2c ed s.
