Useful skill, but not as desireable as the others mentioned above imo.
This is a losing battle.
If you want to play a song wrong do it.
Composers write music on paper so that others can play the songs
properly.
When a composer writes a song it comes from his heart and mind.
He wants others to at lest try to recreate what he felt and thought at
the time.
Key does matter in some songs especially guitar music using open
strings.
Keep in mind that when playing in a band your only job is to create
the music for the singer to sing to.
This is all about ego.
You want to be the guitar hero.
Not a professional who provides correct music for a singer.
