Sounds like a major inconvenience to me.

You think it's more convenient to go down to
GC and try them out there?

That's one of the reasons out local mom and pop store does good
business in competition with the big retailers and franchises. You can
take the gear home, try it out and take it back if you don't like it,
no hassles. He will generally also offer decent part, or even full
exchange deals, which our big chain won't.

The one thing that irks me about stores that have liberal policies like
that, including return policies (including Price Club, Costco etc.) is
that when you do buy something new, you might end up getting something
that has been done to it (and unnoticed by you). It could be anything
from scratches to a poorly done flash upgrade (if electronic). Of course
if you notice it in time and return it, there is no issue other than the
hassle. But if you mod the guitar then that option is normally ruled out.

I would prefer that if they allow people to take stuff home and try it
that they restrict it to demos (and clearly mark what is a demo unit).
That way when I come back and ask to buy a new one, it genuinely is still
new. You'd still want to check _that_ one out for defects etc., but that
would make me feel better.

When buying used of course, things are completely different. But then you
are not paying top dollar either.

Snark.
