Our Pontiac Grand Am gets 45 mpg when we drive
from Phoenix to LA. And it's battery is a lot
cheaper than jthread's.


With the a/c on? I doubt it.

When we bought our 2005 Prius the battery came with a 7 year 100k warranty.
Toyota is trying to ease battery concerns with these extended warranties.

My wife trades in cars when they need new windshield wiper blades so I doubt
the battery is going to be a concern for us.

BTW: My wife is a "dyed-in-the-wool-republican" and is, in-no-way, an
environmentalist. She absolutely loves her Prius. She's been through
numerous cars since we were married 22 years ago and she plans to replace
the Prius (when the blades need replacing) with another hybrid purely for
economic reasons.

I was the one who was skeptical re: buying the Prius. I thought the
technology was too new. We did have to take it to the dealer once. It needed
a new "starter battery". The regular smaller battery was defective.
