Hi,
Been playing about 10 months now and have accumulated a good selection of
picks (nylon, Tortex and Delrin). Over the months I have eventually
settled on a very light gauge (0.5mm) Tortex. I keep trying to use firmer
picks, but my playing suffers as a result. Although it doesn't make much
difference when strumming, it feels like I've only been playing for a
couple of months when I try to pick tunes.
From what I read, the consensus seems to favour firmer picks. Is it worth
me persevering with firmer pick, or should I stick to what works for me.
If the latter, am I going to suffer farther down the road?
Well it works like this. Thicker strings will produce more sound which
is why people like thicker gauge strings. But it is more difficult to play,
unless you devote much time to it and bulk up to physically handle it.
Ditto with picks as far as I am concerned. I seem to use only Fender
Medium picks or the equivalent.
At this point though I would not get too caught up with it. Play what
feels comfortable.
