I'm trying to learn the rhythm part of this song from beginning to end.
The first section is a real hard driving set of chords, which seems to
be:

C-GG-FFF (x8)

My specific question is: should I play these all down strokes? It
seems
to sound more accurate to the CD.

If anyone knows this song and could help me out, I'd appreciate it.

Terrific song - why he was never popular with the mainstream was a
mystery to me.

I don't have my guitar handy (I'm at work) but if memory serves me
those are probably power chords but I don't think they're all
downstrokes. I could be wrong though as I haven't heard that tune in a
few years.

Yeah, he and Marshall Crenshaw are two guys who should have had all
their songs on constant radio rotation in the late 80's, early 90's.

I've been using barre chords, but I'll try switching to power chords.
I'll continue to play around with the rhythm.

Ironically, I think I've got the chorus rhythm down, which is more
complicated than the opening. But I just don't feel like I've captured
the "spirit" of the opening yet.
