Sorry I didn't follow the link earlier. I just did and note I've moved on
from pima as strictly taught and once learned but what I recall, the way
the music notation in your example is written could and perhaps should be
played using alternating im to pick out the pairs of eigth notes, e.g. im
im im im im...

I think its correct to say that would be consistent with the way the older
blues players have picked and the way a classically trained instructor
would direct that piece to be played althought the classically trained
instructor would motivate you to use the little finger as well.

When all is said and done, I think the only thing "correct" to say would
be the only players who stand by what is "correct" are the classically
trained whereas the rest of us minions lack the discipline and training
from a good teacher and eventually tell ourselves it doesn't matter
leading to the development of our own preferences from which a style may
emerge and you know that's all right too. The thing to take away is to
learn not to allow yourself to get stuck on correctness. Get from it what
you can and let yourself take over.

I am not after correctness each way has its own merits and flaws. There is
no correct way. Nobody seems to want to commit and say this is how I would
do it. Do people even think about how they would to it or do they use what
they have learned from habit. Nothing wrong with that either.
