Re: Recording SOftware

What do you mean by "I got that"? Are you now
plugged in through what you can see as a Line In?

yes, i am sure it is plugged into the line in. It is the jack next to the
mic in.

Start, like any troubleshoot, at the source.
Guitar putting out a signal?

yes, i can hear it through the headset

Preamp putting out a signal?

yes, because of the above answer. I took the battery out, to make sure it
was preamped.

Computer putting out a signal?

not sure what you mean by this one. i would think you mean the same as the
above question

What kind of cable/adaptor are you using to
go from preamp to soundcard?

using a guitar cord. whirlwind is the brand. i use it all the time, so i
know it is working properly.

Got some other, reliable, line level source
that you can plug in to the PC to test the card?

i am thinking about that one. i am not sure if i have anything that i cold
plug in.

What is the output of the computer you're using
when you say you hardly hear it? PC speakers?
Headphones (via what output jack?)?
Do they work normally when playing an mp3 or
some other audio file?

yes, headphones. using the speaker out jack. THese work fine, as i use them
for listening to music, and online game playing. they work great.

Describe your setup in a little more detail
than simply saying "I got that" and you'll
get better answers. Otherwise it's all guessing.

the setup is basically this. I am coming out of the guitar, acoustic, with a
cord and going into the line in on the pc SB audio card.

The preamp is contained in the guitar, and runs off of a 9 volt battery.
I can hear the guitar through the headphones, as i raise and lower the line
in volume in the audio control panel, the sound goes along with it. so i
know it is getting the signal. even with the gain all the way up on the
guitar, it is a very low level.
my recording software doesn't pick it up at max gain on both the line in
volume and the preamp/guitar.

like i said, i can hear it, but it isn't as, well let's say loud for lack of
a better term, than i would like it to be.

i hope this info helps you help me.

again, i appreciate your time with this.
